Artist Statement: The theme for my exquisite corpse soundscape project is "An average day for Simon Sprenger" summed up in four minutes and thirty three seconds. I fused various sounds from the class folder and added effects to make a soundscape. Throughout the soundscape, you will hear doors opening and closing, noisy neighbors and me typing furiously at my keyboard. Certain lapses of sound in the soundscape are intentional. They represent the often quiet and boring life that I now lead in the dorms at CU. In addition, there are a couple of repeating sounds to illustrate how routine my life is and how most sounds occur multiple times throughout my day. For example, I wake up most morning to either the sound of birds or noisy neighbors. The story that the soundscape tells includes my morning, afternoon and night (minus showering and eating breakfast). I really wanted to use some dull sounds to illustrate how boring life is living in the dorms while there is corona virus. I am proud of my soundscape and think that it tells an interesting story while using only a handful of sounds (12 from the class folder).
